The Residents have been and are supportive of a “Local” gun range.

Below are some of our support letters.

The first letter was written in 1998. This has been an ongoing issue for years.

The Shooters, with your help, hope to make a Range a reality.

My name is Patrick McDermott and I represent the Santa Cruz Valley Shooting Club.  Our club supports the development of the four new Phoenix recreational shooting microsites.  We would however like to make known that our club supported a recreational shooting microsite in Green Valley on private land in the past and that we maintained the site and cleaned it up when needed; however, new ownership of the land has closed our old shooting site and we are currently working to establish new recreational shooting areas in the Santa Cruz Valley area. At our website you can read about our club's mission, goals and membership.

Our club members live in the area between Sahuarita, AZ and Nogales, AZ.  Most of us own homes in Green Valley, AZ, which is largely an over 55 community.  The combined population of Sahuarita, Green Valley, and Amado Arizona is 51,000.  If we add in Tubac, Rio Rico and Nogales, that figure goes up to 91,000.  As stated earlier, this area recently lost a private recreational shooting site, which could support about 20 to 30 shooters. As we understand it this area has been identified by AZ Fish and Game as one of two areas in Arizona not having a shooting range within 35 minutes.  The closest range is a very formal range run by Pima county but it is about 40-55 minutes away from most of our members.  We would appreciate any help that any government agency can provide as we move forward with our mission and goals.  Establishing something like a recreational shooting microsite in the Santa Cruz Valley would go a long way to reaching our goals and mission.

Sincerely,

Patrick McDermott
